Allseas has ordered hybrid electric Heavy Duty ROVs from Schilling Robotics, a TechnipFMC company. According to a report published on September 21, the new equipment will gradually replace vehicles used on the company’s vessels.

The eHD systems combine electric propulsion with hydraulic capabilities and are rated for operations at depths of up to 6,000 metres. The upgrade supports subsea construction, pipelay, and inspection and intervention associated with heavy-lift operations.

The order should be distinguished from actual entry into service: replacement will be gradual. The adoption of these vehicles illustrates how electrification is also reaching the support equipment working beneath the surface.
