LNG carrier concept with four sails advances through design appraisal
The HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and MOL concept places accommodation and the bridge forward to make room for sails.

An LNG carrier concept with four rigid Wind Challenger sails received a design appraisal from Lloyd’s Register, according to a September 16 report. The work involves HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.
The arrangement moves the accommodation block and bridge to the bow. This frees the central and aft deck areas for wind-assisted propulsion and expands the options for positioning the sails.
The announced milestone concerns the design. It is not the delivery of a vessel or proof of performance in commercial operations. The concept is part of work to incorporate wind assistance into large-scale LNG transport.
